How do you make a movie for R 400 000?

Passionately! Intended primarily for DVD and Video release, Engagement is being filmed on two of Sony's new HDR-FX1 HDV Camcorders, allowing for a high-resolution, widescreen format suited to digital projection, broadcast, and possible conversion to 35mm print.

With the intention of creating a sustainable independent movie production blueprint, the film is being produced on a ruthlessly tight budget and aggressively marketed to venues and organisations capable of hosting digital screening of DVD copies. Shot entirely on location in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, using local actors, crew, and post-production facilities, the success of this project would fly in the face of negativity regarding the viability of Independent South African films and also showcase the potential of the Eastern Cape as a prime location for future film projects of this nature.
