Breakdown of Production Timetable

Spring 2000 - Mark & Bryony write and produce a stage show called "The Wedding". 2 500 people attend the four performances. It is decided that when we eventually make our first movie, it should be based on this story.

November 2003 - After experience gained in scriptwriting and editing, we finally begin to write the screenplay which will eventually become known as "Engagement". A target to commence production during 2004 is set.

May 2004 - First Auditions are held for "Engagement".

August 2004 - In an effort to improve Investment opportunities, the first ten minutes of the script is filmed on a DVCAM camera and edited. The first 20% of the budget is set in place without any outside Investors.

October 2004 - A road trip to Gauteng and Durban leads to acquisition of several vital pieces of equipment; permission to use a high-profile local band's music; and our first outside investment of 25% of the budget. Back home, further auditions are held to recast certain roles and beef up our list of extras. Full-scale pre-production commences.

November 2004 - News of Sony's HDR-FX1 HDV Camcorder leads to a change in shooting schedule as the new unit will only land in the country in December. Final pre-production and scheduling arrangements are made.

December 2004 - Filming begins! A week into production we acquire our second camera and wonder how we would ever have hit our deadline with only one. A week later one of our leads has to pull out of filming until mid-January... Shoots are rescheduled and the exhausted crew is joined by two Cape Town professionals who impart much wisdom in the week leading up to Christmas. In three weeks we manage to finish about 65% of filming.

January 2005 - New Year, new challenges! While one lead will again be available mid-January, another has started a new job... in East London - 300 km away! Hectic reshuffle of shooting schedule sees every weekend in January packed with as many scenes as possible. 6% more of the budget is raised through one new investor, while another also commits to a further 6.5%, which comes through mid-February. Towards the end of the month, the weather begins to turn nasty and wreak havoc with outdoor scenes. On the upside, we have one more week to end of filming and a long-awaited 'wrap party'.

February 2005 - Filming is finished (apart from one elusive scene involving cars and policemen) and the inevitable pickups and cutaways which will occupy a few more weekends until mid-March. A teaser trailer has been released and first poster designed. All focus now shifts to editing; score; marketing; booking of screening venues and raising the balance of the budget.

09 April 2005 - World Premiere at PE Opera House.

05 May 2005 - Ascension Day: (Inter)National Public Release through Churches and Schools. All other release offers will be considered...
